(RV) Rocky Women’s Basketball Closes Cactus Classic Sweep with 85-52 Victory over Embry-Riddle

CHANDLER, Ariz.- Angie Cavanaugh recorded a career-high 18 points, 15 of which came in the second quarter alone, which propelled the Battlin' Bears to a second straight lopsided victory.

The Battlin' Bears dominated their competition in Arizona, winning their two matchups by a combined score of 152-90. They continue to be perfect on the road, combining for an 8-0 record in away or neutral site games during the 2024-25 non-conference schedule. After earning their largest margin of victory in Wednesday's win over (RV) Loyola, the Battlin' Bears surpassed that mark on Friday with a 33-point win.

Rocky's win also featured season highs in points scored (85), field goal percentage (51.5%), and three-point percentage (52.4%).

How it Happened

For the second consecutive game, Paige Wasson kicked off the scoring with a made three-pointer on the game's opening possession. Embry-Riddle quickly responded with a three of their own and gained quick momentum with a 7-0 run, forcing an early Battlin' Bear timeout.

The Eagles continued to have the upper hand through the game's first seven minutes, as five first-quarter turnovers plagued the Battlin' Bears. Despite this, Rocky clamped down defensively in the final three minutes of the quarter, as they held Embry-Riddle scoreless, while Sydney Dethman and Iliana Moran combined for nine points on the offensive end to grab a two-point lead going into the second quarter.

The second quarter again was the major swing in the game for the Battlin' Bears. The Rocky women have outscored their opponents 49-12 in the second quarter in their past two games. After taking a 9-0 run into the quarter break, the Battlin' Bears continued to shine, beginning the third quarter on a separate 15-2 run, combining for a 24-2 run over eight minutes of game time. Angie Cavanaugh was red hot coming off of the bench, shooting five-of-five from three-point range in the second quarter alone, setting a new career high in just ten minutes of play, leading the Battlin' Bears to a 22-point lead at the halftime break.

The Rocky women kept their foot on the gas, shooting just under 60% from the field in the second half as they ran away with a 33-point win in Arizona.
