(RV) Rocky Women’s Basketball Splits Season Series Against Dickinson State; Fall 61-55 To Conclude Non-Conference Action

BILLINGS, Mont.- A season-low shooting percentage from the Battlin' Bears saw them drop their second straight contest 61-55 at home on Sunday evening.

Rocky's 32.7% shooting from the field and 26.3% from three-point range were the lowest in games this season. Despite this, they forced 19 Blue Hawk turnovers to give themselves a chance late in the contest but could not hang on through the final buzzer.

How it Happened

The first half was a frustrating stretch offensively for the Battlin' Bears, shooting just 24% from the field and three-of-twelve from three-point range, scoring just five points in the second quarter. While Rocky was solid defensively, Dickinson State took advantage of the scoring drought, ending the first half on a 7-2 run to take a ten-point lead into the locker room.

The Battlin' Bears found success in the third quarter near the basket, piling up points in the paint and earning trips to the free-throw line. Momentum finally shifted to end the third quarter, as Rocky finished the quarter on a 9-2 run to cut their deficit to four.

Rocky finally broke through for their first lead since the game's first minute with back-to-back baskets from Gracee Lekvold and Sydney Dethman to open the fourth quarter. From then on, both teams traded baskets, as Isabelle Heggem drained a three-pointer with 5:38 remaining to give the Battlin' Bears a slim one-point lead. Ultimately, the Battlin' Bears went cold again from the field, being held without a field goal for the final five minutes of play, as Dickinson State's Anhelica Shanrock scored eight points in the final five minutes of the game to swipe a victory for the Blue Hawks in the Fortin Education Center.

Notable Statistics

Sydney Dethman had another solid outing from the field, scoring 21 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. It was her fifth 20+ point performance of the season and her second double-double. Iliana Moran added 11 points and three assists, while Gracee Lekvold swiped five steals in the loss.

Rocky's five made three-pointers were the second lowest in a game this season, while their 22 total rebounds were a season-low.

Anhelica Shanrock led Dickinson State with 23 points, including shooting five-of-six from three-point range and adding four steals.
