Rocky Women’s Basketball Falls Late to No. 8 Carroll College

BILLINGS, Mont.- A fourth-quarter cold spell ultimately burned the Battlin' Bears, falling 73-61 to No. 8 ranked Carroll College on Thursday. 

Six different Battlin' Bears contributed points in a high offensive first quarter that saw neither team extend a lead larger than five. A 7-2 run for the Battlin' Bears late in the second quarter saw them grab a slim three-point lead, but Carroll's Jamie Pickens finished the half with a jumper to bring the game to a tie at 36-36 going into halftime. 

The third quarter continued to be a back-and-forth affair, with neither team pulling away with a lead larger than four. The Fighting Saints held a slim two-point lead going into the fourth quarter. 

Carroll College grabbed the momentum in a run that would ultimately be the difference in Thursday's game, rattling off a 12-2 run over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to extend the largest lead of the game at 12. While Rocky put together some effective offensive possessions in the final five minutes, but solid free throw shooting from the Fighting Saints sealed the defeat for the Battlin' Bears. 

Gracee Lekvold led the scoring for Rocky with 13 points, while also pulling down nine rebounds. Iliana Moran added 10 points, Morgan Baird finished with nine points, and Tailyn Black tied her career high with eight points. 

Jamie Pickens was the game's leading scorer, finishing with 28 points and 10 rebounds in the win for Carroll College. 

The Rocky women (15-11, 4-10 conf.) wrap up their regular season with a home game against Montana Western on Saturday to celebrate senior day.
