Rocky Ski Grabs Two Team Titles and One Individual Title on Day One of USCSA Nationals

LAKE PLACID, N.Y.- Gusten Berglund earned an individual national title as he led the Rocky men to a team title in the men's railjam, while the Rocky women placed four in the top five overall to earn a giant slalom team title.  

Women's Giant Slalom

The Rocky women placed well in the women's giant slalom, grabbing four of the top five places overall. Hilde Iren Sato led the way with a runner-up finish as she crossed with a combined time of 2:16.52. Following Sato were three of her teammates, as Bergitte Varne finished third with a time of 2:18.04, Synne Kvinlog finished fourth with a time of 2:19.71, and Sofia Brustia finished fifth overall with a time of 2:21.71. 

All four finishers for the Battlin' Bears earned First-Team All-American honors. This is the fourth All-American honor for Hilde Iren Sato and Sofia Brustia and the third honor for Synne Kvinlog and Bergitte Varne

The Battlin' Bears earned the team title with a combined team time of 6:54.27, nearly 20 seconds ahead of the runner-ups from Northern Michigan University. 

Men's Skier Cross

The Battlin' Bears grabbed their second team title of the day in the men's skier cross, led by an individual championship by Gusten Berglund. Ian McCormick and Mads Fondevik Syversen earned First Team All-American honors, as McCormick finished second overall and Syversen finished fourth. Other finishers included Austin Johnson in 18th and Felix Besser in 24th. This is Berglund's third career All-American honor, McCormick's second, and Syversen's first in his career. 

The Battlin' Bears earned a team victory with seven place points, strides ahead of the runners-ups from Colorado Mesa University, who tallied 40 place points. 

Women's RailJam

Tuesday's action concluded with the women's railjam. Reese Harman and Emma Hiebert led the way, earning Second Team All-American honors, as Harman placed sixth overall and Hiebert finished eighth. Cora Moriarty was the final Rocky finisher, placing 22nd. This is Hiebert's third All-American honor and Harman's first of her career. 

The Battlin' Bears placed third overall in the team standings with 36 place points. The Claremont Colleges earned the team victory with 35 place points. 

Wednesday's action will continue with the men's giant slalom, the men's railjam, and women's skier cross.
