Rocky Men’s Soccer Wins Dramatic Rimrock Rivalry Exhibition After Last-Minute Penalty Kick

BILLINGS, Mont.- Freshman Henry Chalkley found the net on a penalty kick in the final thirty seconds to propel the Battlin' Bears to a dramatic 2-1 exhibition victory over MSUB Saturday evening.

How it Happened

The first half was a defensive slugfest. Each team mustered only three shots apiece, none of which were on goal through the first 45 minutes.

The action picked up in the second half, which was physical throughout. The Yellowjackets were the first to strike in the 60th minute, as Ryan Hanley rifled a shot from 25 yards out to the top right corner of the goal to give MSUB a 1-0 lead. The Battlin' Bears responded twelve minutes later, as Paul Randello rounded up a missed crosser for the Battlin' Bears and popped a pass back up to the middle of the field, where Espoir Mayele got his head on the ball and powered a header into the net to tie things back up at 1-1.

MSUB nearly had their answer 30 seconds of game time later, as a hard foul inside the box gave Guillermo Gonzalez a chance at a penalty kick. Freshman Anton Wilms had other ideas, however, diving in front of the PK attempt to keep the match tied at one apiece.

The Yellowjackets continued to pressure the Rocky defense with multiple scoring opportunities, but the Battlin' Bear backfield stayed strong to keep the match tied as it approached the final minutes of play.

With just 30 seconds remaining in the match, Ralph Jooma Jr. found a streaking Ryan Daniel on a free-kick opportunity. As Randello went to secure the pass, he was fouled from behind, giving the Battlin' Bears a penalty kick try. It was freshman Henry Chalkley who was called upon to take the opportunity, and he delivered for Rocky, misdirecting the Yellowjacket goalie on his approach and finding the back of the net for a dramatic game-winning goal.

After substituting into the game after halftime, Anton Wilms saved five of the six shots he faced. Rocky scored on their only two shots on goal in the match and were outshot 13-8 overall and 6-2 on shots on goal.

Scoring Summary

60' MSUB - Ryan Hanley (unassisted)
72' RMC - Espoir Mayele (ast. Paul Randello)
