Rocky Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to MSU Billings

BILLINGS, Mont.—The Battlin' Bears dropped the first of two Rimrock Rivalry matches this season on Tuesday after a slow start in Alterowitz Gym.

How it Happened

With a back-and-forth contest to start, the Yellowjackets caught fire in the first set, rattling off nine straight points, including four service aces to win 25-12.

The Battlin' Bears' struggles continued into the second set, mustering a team-hitting percentage of just. 150 with six attack errors and only two total blocks, losing 25-19 to fall into a steep deficit.

Rocky didn't bow their heads after an early 0-2 pit, even after the Yellowjackets grabbed an early 9-3 lead to open up the third set. Kaitlyn Wood helped settle the Battlin' Bears with two kills that sparked a 7-2 run to bring the Battlin' Bears back within two. After Madeline Gilder spiked a kill to bring the Rocky deficit to 17-19, she led the charge with precise serves that rallied the Battlin' Bears to five straight points. Gabriella Panzetta and Ella Kincaid combined for a pair of blocks to seal a 25-22 third-set victory to force a fourth set.

Ultimately, the Yellowjackets' team hitting percentage of .357 in the fourth set handed the Battlin' Bears their first loss to MSUB since September 27th, 2022.

Ella Kincaid stepped in for her first start at right side, tying a career-high ten kills in the loss. Blythe Sealey totaled 31 assists, and Brooke Ark finished with 20 digs.
