Rocky Men’s Soccer Defeats Providence 1-0 on Sunday

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- Freshman goalkeeper Anton Wilms turned in a clean sheet in his first collegiate start to propel the Battlin' Bears to their first conference victory. 

How it Happened
The only goal on the afternoon came in the 35th minute, thanks to a takeaway from Espoir Mayele, who outran the Argo defenders into the box before dishing across the field to teammate Paul Randello, who finished the play to give Rocky a 1-0 lead. 

The Rocky defense held strong throughout, led by freshman Anton Wilms in goal in his first start. Wilms saved all six shots he faced on the day to lead the Battlin' Bears to their first shutout of the season and the first since September 30th, 2023, against Walla Walla University. 

Espoir Mayele put pressure on the Providence back line all day, putting all five of his shot attempts on goal. Rocky outshot Providence 12-11 in the win, putting eight of their shots on goal compared to the Argos' six.
