Rocky Men’s Soccer Powers Past Yotes 4-3

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears scored a season-high four goals as they won an exciting matchup against (RV) College of Idaho on Friday.

How it Happened

Espoir Mayele got the Rocky men on the board early, as he took the ball himself through a crowd of Yotes before emerging with the ball in the box and scoring in the eighth minute to give Rocky a 1-0 lead.

College of Idaho would respond quickly, as Eric Hornung would sneak behind the Rocky defense to finish a long pass from teammate Luke Quinn to tie the match at 1-1. Just three minutes later, the Yotes would strike again, this time on a corner kick from Quinn that found the head of teammate Jake Anderson to give College of Idaho a 2-1 lead.

Entering the second half, the Battlin' Bears wasted no time tying up the match, as Henry Chalkley made a beautiful pass off of a free kick, finding Igor Soares to make a leaping kick to score his third goal of the season.

After a header from Espoir Mayele was saved by the Yotes' keeper, Antonio Morales, playing in his first action of the season, came soaring in to clean up the attempt, scoring his first collegiate goal to give Rocky a 3-2 lead.

College of Idaho would not go quietly, as Jorge Fernandez found himself free in the box in the 74th minute, scoring on the one-on-one opportunity to tie the match at 3-3.

It would be another heads-up play following a save that would give Rocky the game-winning goal. Henry Chalkley fired a free kick towards the center of the goal, which the Yotes batted down, but Nolan Finch was quick on the follow-up to put the ball into the back of the net, giving Rocky the 4-3 lead they would hold until the final whistle.

Rocky outshot the Yotes 16-10 in the victory, led by a game-high four shots from Espoir Mayele. Igor Soares tallied three shots, and seven different Battlin' Bears had a shot on goal.

Eric Hornung, Jake Anderson, and Pierre Fabre all tallied two shots a piece for College of Idaho.
