Rocky Women’s Soccer Comeback Effort Falls Short to Argos

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- The Rocky women cut their deficit to just one in the final ten minutes, but despite multiple shot opportunities in the final minutes, Rocky fell 3-2 to the Argos on Sunday.

How it Happened

The Battlin' Bears got on the board early against the University of Providence, as Charlize Davis showed off her blazing speed down the sideline, cornering in towards the goal past the Argos defenders before finding Emma Lensing in the middle of the box for her fourth goal in the past three games.

Providence would even up the score in the 32nd minute thanks to a deep shot from Shea Waters that was deflected off a Rocky defender before knuckling into the goal, tying the match at 1-1 going into the half.

Argos junior Kailey Camper would score twice in the second half, the first coming off of an errant Battlin' Bear pass in the back line that Camper took and won the one-on-one against the goalkeeper to give Providence the lead. Camper would score again in the 75th minute after her shot was deflected by Hannah Trumbull, but the ball rolled back into the net to extend the Argo lead.

Ellen Gaudry would cut the Battlin' Bear deficit to one in the 82nd minute after a shot attempt by Mya Maack was blocked by an Argo defender right into the lap of Gaudry, who converted her first collegiate goal. The Battlin' Bears would have two more shots on goal in the final three minutes of the match, but Providence was able to save both, as Rocky would fall 3-2 in Great Falls.

Emma Lensing led the way with eight shot attempts, five of which were on goal, leading Rocky to a 26-9 shot discrepancy in the loss. The Battlin' Bears had 12 corner kick opportunities and held possession in Argos territory for most of the afternoon.
