Rocky Volleyball Shakes Losing Skid With Four-Set Victory Over Carroll College

BILLINGS, Mont.—The Battlin' Bears got themselves back into rhythm at home, taking a commanding four-set victory over Carroll College on Saturday evening.

How it Happened

The Battlin' Bears controlled the match in all aspects on Saturday. Rocky finished with a hitting percentage of .406 in the first set, totaling just one attacking error to cruise to a 25-17 win.

Rocky's front line gave the Fighting Saints fits in the second set, tallying five blocks and forcing ten attack errors as they again cruised to a comfortable 25-18 set victory.

The Battlin' Bears had an opportunity to win the third set, and the match after a kill from Makenna Bushman gave Rocky a 24-20 lead. Carroll College would not go quietly, however, tallying six consecutive points to swipe away a third-set win, 26-24.

Carroll's momentum continued into the fourth set, going back and forth with the Battlin' Bears as they took a 14-13 lead following a kill from Hannah Schweikert. Makenna Bushman would rally her team, putting down three kills amid a 6-1 run to give the Battlin' Bears a 19-15 lead. The momentum from that run carried Rocky through to seal the match, as a Carroll attack error would be the final blow to give the Battlin' Bears their sixth consecutive victory over the Fighting Saints.

Makenna Bushman had an outstanding individual performance, totaling a game-high 17 kills and three service aces while also adding 24 digs and two blocks. Kaitlyn Wood added 11 kills and five blocks, Blythe Sealey totaled 49 assists and ten digs, and Brooke Ark finished with 30 digs.

Overall, the Battlin' Bears finished with a hitting percentage of .241 as a team, the fourth-highest in a game this season, and 56 total kills, the most this season. The backline of Rocky's defense tallied 92 total digs, the fourth match this season in which they totaled 90 or more digs.
