(RV) Rocky Men’s Basketball Wins Eighth Straight Game After 74-62 Victory Over MSU-Northern

HAVRE, Mont.- The Battlin' Bear men grab their first 3-0 start to conference play since the 2013-14 season after a strong second half leads to an twelve-point win over the Lights in Havre. 

Rocky has increased their winning streak to eight games and is the only Frontier Conference team without a conference loss this season. 

Five Battlin' Bears scored in double-figures in Saturday's win as the Battlin' Bears shot just shy of 50% from the field overall. 

How it Happened

The Battlin' Bears were locked in on the defensive end, holding the Lights without a point for almost five consecutive minutes to kick off Saturday's matchup, jumping out to an 8-0 lead. 

The Lights bounced back over the next five minutes, using a 9-2 run to grab a one-point edge after a jumper from Cinque Maxwell. With both teams trading baskets back and forth for the final ten minutes, Rocky found a slight advantage at halftime after closing the half on a 7-2 run. 

The Rocky men would never relinquish their lead in the second half, anchored by shooting a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line, along with nine offensive rebounds that maintained crucial possessions. Seven different Battlin' Bears scored in the second half, led by 12 second-half points from Colton Spencer. Spencer's three-pointer with 1:48 remaining in the game was ultimately the dagger, giving the Battlin' Bears their largest lead at 14 to secure their eighth straight win. 

Notable Statistics

Jaylon Lee extended his double-double streak to four games, including ten in his last 11 games, after tallying a game-high 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jesse Owens added 14 points and three assists, while Colton Spencer (12), Omari Nesbit (11), and Royce Robinson (10) all finished in double figures. 

The Battlin' Bears were nearly perfect from the free throw line, shooting 17-of-18 on the night, their highest percentage (94.4%) of the season and the best in a game in which they shot more than four free throws since January 2018. (11-of-11 against Montana Western). 

Cinque Maxwell led the Lights with 13 points and four steals.
