(RV) Rocky Women’s Basketball Earns Weekend Sweep With 67-44 Victory Over MSU-Northern

HAVRE, Mont.- Another dominant defensive effort paves the way for the Rocky women to earn a 67-44 victory over MSU-Northern to climb to first place in the Frontier Conference standings.

The Battlin' Bears have given up less than 45 points in two of their three conference matchups and 52 points or less in all three. The Rocky women have begun their conference schedule 3-0 in three of the past four seasons.

How it Happened

With both teams trading baskets back-and-forth to begin, Iliana Moran would score on back-to-back possessions to spark a 9-2 run to close out the first quarter, giving the Battlin' Bears a 17-12 lead after the first quarter.

Brenna Linse would be the only player to score for either team in the first five minutes of the second quarter, as a pair of layups extended Rocky's lead to 21-12. Both groups heated up offensively, but Rocky would maintain their lead going into halftime, 27-20.

The Skylights came out ready to go in the second half, cutting their deficit to four points with 5:37 remaining. Madeline Heggem came off the bench within five minutes to play in the third quarter, providing a huge spark for the Battlin' Bears. After drawing a foul and hitting a pair of free throws, Heggem made an excellent defensive play for a block and rebound in transition, when she was later rewarded on the other end with a layup to extend Rocky's lead back to double-figures. The Rocky women would finish the final five minutes on a 16-5 run to close out the third quarter with a 15-point advantage.

A 10-2 run over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter all but sealed Rocky's victory in Havre, as the Battlin' Bears extended a lead as large as 24 points while holding the Skylights to just 1-of-10 from the field in the fourth quarter to earn their third consecutive win.
