Rocky Ski Sweeps First Day of Competition in Colorado

WINTER PARK, Colo.- The Battlin' Bears women swept the top three places individually, with the men grabbing the top two as both teams earned team victories on Sunday in Colorado. 

Rocky Ski competed in two runs of Slalom competition on Sunday and will return to the mountain on Monday for two runs of Giant Slalom. 

Men's Results

Jules Clerice and Caleb Unger went 1-2 in the men's slalom, with Clerice leaning on a 41.28-second run on his second attempt to combine for a winning time of 1:25.74. Unger followed with a total time of 1:27.29. 

Elio Turnes and Ashton Fretwell also placed inside the top ten overall, with Turnes taking fifth with a time of 1:29.28, while Fretwell finished ninth with a total time of 1:33.86. 

Other Battlin' Bear finishers included - 

19th place - Austin Johnson (1:41.37)
38th place - Oliver Sapak (1:55.10)

The Rocky men leaned on their four top-ten overall finishers for a team victory on the first day of competition at Winter Park. 

Women's Results

The Rocky women grabbed the top three individual places on Sunday, led by Eulalie Giraud, grabbing a commanding victory with a total time of 1:28.32, including the two best finishes on the day. Elisabeth Grimkelsrud and Synne Kvinlog followed with podium finishes, with Grimkelsrud placing second with 1:31.19 and Kvinlog in third with a total time of 1:31.81. 

Jenny Sjøtun also finished in the top ten individually, placing ninth with a total time of 1:36.89. Other Battlin' Bear competitors included - 

11th place - Klara Almquist (1:37.88)
17th place - Sara Akerstrom (1:42.47)
18th place - Malia Grantor (1:43.20)

The Battlin' Bear women took first in the team competition for the third time in three conference events.

The Battlin' Bears return to the mountain on Monday morning to compete in the Giant Slalom.
