PREVIEW: #19 Rocky Men’s Basketball Opens Second Conference Rotation at Home Against Providence; Travels to #11 Orediggers on Saturday

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears will begin the second rotation of the Frontier Conference schedule with a home game against the University of Providence before traveling to take on #11 Montana Tech in Butte.

Last Time Out

After suffering their first conference loss of the season on the road at Carroll College, the No. 19-ranked Rocky men bounced back to win 79-68 at home against Montana Western. 

Omari Nesbit dominated the stat sheet in both games, averaging 19.0 points on just under 60% field-goal shooting and grabbing a season-high three steals in Saturday's win over the Bulldogs. Jaylon Lee also continued to impress, tallying 17 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks in Rocky's victory over Montana Western. 

The Rocky men look to continue a torrid 15-3 start to their season with a second rotation around the Frontier Conference beginning Thursday evening.

Round Two
The Battlin' Bears will begin the second rotation of the Frontier Conference schedule with a home game against the University of Providence before traveling to take on #11 Montana Tech in Butte.   

Efficiency - The Name of the Game
The Rocky men have controlled the paint on both ends this season. Carter McCoy (57.9%) and Jaylon Lee (57.7%) rank first and second in the conference in field goal percentage this season. Defensively, the Battlin' Bears are the leading shot-blocking team in the Frontier through five conference games, averaging 3.4 blocks per game. Jaylon Lee leads the conference with 2.0 blocks per game in conference play and 2.1 blocks per game throughout the season. 

Go-To Scorer
After beginning the season coming off the bench, transfer guard Omari Nesbit has started each of the past ten games and has become a staple in the Rocky offense, scoring 16.8 points per game in conference play, ranking second in the Frontier, and shooting 60% from the field. 

Scouting the Argos
Providence has gone 2-1 in conference play since their first meeting with the Battlin' Bears, when the Rocky men erased an 18-point second-half deficit to ultimately win 75-71 in Great Falls on January 9th. The Argos are the top three-point shooting team in conference play, making 9.2 threes per game on 34.6%. Mike Wright Jr. has been the leader on that end of the floor, making 2.6 threes per game in conference play and 14.6 points per game, leading four Argos starters averaging ten or more points per game in conference play. 

Scouting the Orediggers
Montana Tech has bounced back since falling to the Battlin' Bears in their conference opener, winning each of their past four games by an average margin of 20 points per game. Their dominance has been most notable on the defensive end, holding all five conference opponents to 67 points or less, allowing just 57.8 points per game in conference play, over seven points lower than any other team. Offensively, Hayden Diekhans led the charge for the Orediggers, scoring 14.8 points per game in conference play while making six free throws per game over his past four games at an 82.7% rate.
