(RV) Rocky Men’s Basketball Drops Home Matchup Against Lights 81-69

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Rocky Men could not overcome a slow start as they fell to MSU-Northern at home on Thursday.

The loss marks the third straight for the Battlin' Bears as the Lights secured their first conference victory of the season.

How it Happened

MSU-Northern came out hot to start, beginning the game on a 10-0 run over the first five minutes of play. Four early turnovers hurt the offensive rhythm for the Battlin' Bears, as a jumper from Omari Nesbit started the scoring for Rocky at the 14:57 mark of the first half. The Lights continued to shoot the ball well, hitting six threes in the first half and shooting 54.3% from the field to build a 17-point lead at halftime.

The Battlin' Bears saw life midway through the second half, as Colton Spencer led an 11-0 run for Rocky to cut their deficit to four and force a Lights timeout with 12 minutes remaining. MSU-Northern settled the Rocky momentum with a 6-2 run of their own to take back a nine-point advantage.

While Rocky again reduced its deficit to four, they were held in check with just six points over the final five minutes of play as the Lights shocked the Battlin' Bears at home.

Notable Statistics

Omari Nesbit led all scorers with 20 points on seven-of-13 shooting from the field. Colton Spencer and Royce Robinson each added 16 points of their own, with Robinson adding eight rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. Carter McCoy tallied a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

MSU-Northern shot 52.5% from the floor, the fourth-worst percentage allowed by the Rocky defense this season. Without their leading scorer and rebounder on the floor, the Battlin' Bears grabbed a season-low 28 rebounds in the loss.

All five starters scored in double-figures for MSU-Northern, led by Leon Sayers IV who had a season-high 19 points, leading the Lights to the most points they've scored in a conference game this season.
