(RV) Rocky Women’s Basketball Cruises to 58-48 Home Victory over MSU-Northern

BILLINGS, Mont.- Gracee Lekvold poured on a season-high 20 points to lead the Battlin' Bears to a home victory over MSU-Northern on Thursday evening.

The Rocky women took the lead with four minutes to go in the first quarter and never gave it up. The defense forced 17 Skylight turnovers and held them to just 48 points in an overall strong effort for Rocky's 14th victory of the season.

How it Happened

A team effort offensively saw the Battlin' Bears jump out to an early lead, as all five starters got in the score column to combine to shoot 57.1% from the field en route to a 20-14 lead after one quarter.

Rocky extended its lead to double digits following a 10-2 run heading into the media timeout, forcing four turnovers in that span to hold a 30-16 lead. The Skylights closed their deficit before the half, forcing a three-and-a-half-minute scoreless drought for Rocky. Iliana Moran broke the drought in the final seconds to give Rocky a 32-25 halftime lead.

The Battlin' Bear defense held firm in the third quarter, holding MSU-Northern to just three-of-ten shooting and forcing five turnovers. While it wasn't the strongest offensive period for the Battlin' Bears, they had zero turnovers in the third quarter as Gracee Lekvold's layup in the final ten seconds extended their lead to double digits entering the fourth quarter.

Gracee Lekvold scored the first six points for the Battlin' Bears in the fourth quarter with an and-one and a three-pointer to give the Battlin' Bears a 14-point lead early in the fourth quarter. From then on, Sydney Dethman led the charge, scoring seven of her 12 points in the final six minutes of the game to hold Rocky's double-digit lead through the final whistle.
