PREVIEW: (RV) Rocky Men’s Basketball Hits the Road For Matchups Against the Argos and Lights

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Rocky men will look to preserve a six-game winning streak in a pair of conference matchups on the road beginning Thursday evening.

Last Time Out

The Battlin' Bears put the Frontier Conference and the NAIA on notice in their conference opener, defeating No. 6 Montana Tech at home 63-55. It was Rocky's first top-10 victory since January 2019 and their first win over Montana Tech since February 2019. 

The Rocky men held the Orediggers to nearly 30 points below their season average on the offensive end and outrebounded Montana Tech by seven. Omari Nesbit hit huge shots down the stretch for the Battlin' Bears, totaling a game-high 19 points on 8-11 shooting from the field. Jaylon Lee totaled another double-double after a 16-point, ten-rebound performance. 

Game Notes

On the Road Again
The Battlin' Bears will take their first road trip of the 2024-25 conference schedule, visiting the University of Providence on Thursday and MSU-Northern on Saturday. The Rocky men have yet to lose on the road this season, combining for a 7-0 record in road and neutral site games. 

Key Pieces
The Battlin' Bears were ranked No.5 in the most recent NAIA Men's Basketball RPI Release. Their lone NAIA loss on the season is to No. 4-ranked Arizona Christian. According to the Massey Ratings, the Rocky men are the No. 23 rated team in the NAIA and have a top-35 offensive rating this season. 

Piling Up Recognition
Junior forward Jaylon Lee earned his fourth consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honor on Monday. Lee totaled his ninth double-double on the season with 16 points, ten rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Head Coach Bill Dreikosen was also named NAIA Coach of the Week by NAIA Hoops Report and HoopDirt.com following Rocky's upset victory over No. 6 Montana Tech on Saturday. 

Scouting the Argos
A new-look University of Providence team has begun their season 7-7 after a victory over Carroll College this past Saturday. The Argos return just one player who started a game in the 2023-24 season, Jamil Bowles, their leading scorer, averages 16.5 points per game on 52.8% shooting from the field. 

Scouting the Lights
MSU-Northern will look to build some momentum early in the conference schedule after a 6-8 start. The Lights have been led this season by NCAA DII transfer Jack Reardon, averaging 13.3 points per game. MSU-Northern has been the top three-point shooting team by percentage in the conference, shooting 37.0% as a team this season, led by reserve guard Anthony Mendez, who ranks eighth in the NAIA with a 55.6% rate from deep this season.
