(RV) Rocky Women’s Basketball Finishes Strong to Swipe Victory Over Fifth-Ranked Argos 60-52

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears held the Argos to just two points over the final six minutes of action to stun fifth-ranked Providence at home and pick up their second straight conference victory.

The Battlin' Bears were solid throughout; despite taking a season-low four free throw attempts, they held the University of Providence to a season-low 52 points. Offensively, Rocky shot over 45% from the field in the second half to secure their tenth victory of the year and their second conference win in two tries.

The win on Thursday evening marks the first top-ten victory for the Battlin' Bears since the 2021 season.

How it Happened

After the Battlin' Bears scored the first two baskets of the game, Providence shot out to an 11-2 run to grab an early lead on their home court. Rocky settled through the quarter's final minutes to cut their deficit to three going into the second quarter.

Scoring heated up in the second quarter, with both teams trading baskets throughout the first five minutes. Rocky's defense held firm to close the half, holding the Argos scoreless in the final three minutes. Paige Wasson ended the half with a three-pointer, shrinking the deficit to one point going into the break.

Rocky's three-point shooting ignited a run leading to their third-quarter lead. They hit four of five from deep in the quarter, led by a 10-point quarter from Sydney Dethman, giving the Battlin' Bears a two-point lead going into the final quarter.

It was the Battlin' Bear defense that closed things out in Great Falls, as after Sydney Dethman would tie the game with a layup at the 6:17 mark in the quarter, Rocky would hold Providence to just two points for the remainder of the contest, finishing the game on a 12-2 run that would secure the victory over the fifth-ranked team in the NAIA.
