Rocky Men’s Soccer Battles to a 1-1 Draw Against First-Place Mountaineers

BILLINGS, Mont.- Rocky went head-to-head with undefeated Eastern Oregon, as both teams tallied second-half goals to bring the match to a 1-1 draw. 

Jeremiah Espana recorded his first collegiate goal in the 66th minute. Still, a costly Battlin' Bear mistake would allow Eastern Oregon to knot the match just six minutes later with a penalty kick. 

How It Happened
Neither team found much momentum offensively in the first half, with Rocky narrowly outshooting Eastern Oregon 5-4 through the first 45 minutes. 

The ball finally found the net in the second half, as a corner kick from Rory O'Donnell found the head of David Russell, who switched the ball to the other side of the box and to the foot of freshman Jeremiah Espana, who flipped the ball in to give Rocky a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute. 

Eastern Oregon would get its opportunity to knot the match up just six minutes later, as Marcos Bravo would get fouled on a breakaway run inside the box, which allowed Jahrie Gray a penalty kick, which he converted to tie the match 1-1.  

Both teams would rattle off shot attempts through the final 15 minutes, but none would find the net, as Rocky would settle for a draw against Eastern Oregon. 

Shot attempts would be even, with both teams attempting 12, with four on goal for each squad. 

Redshirt freshman Biruk Paulos-Negatu made his first start of the season and his first in a Battlin' Bear uniform, recording two saves. Lorenzo Klamler and Fynn Sweeting each totaled three shots apiece, with Sweeting putting two of his shots on frame.
