Rocky Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to the Fighting Saints at Home

BILLINGS, Mont. - After an entertaining back-and-forth second set, Rocky eventually would fall to the Fighting Saints in three sets on Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

The Battlin' Bears jumped out to a strong start, jumping to a quick 4-1 lead. A Fighting Saints' six-point swing forced a Rocky timeout in response early in the set. The match evened out mid-way through, as a block from Amelia Kisiel and Kaitlyn Wood tied the game at 17-17. Carroll College would have the final say in set one, however, finishing on an 8-3 run to win the first set 25-20.

The second set was a back-and-forth slugfest, with both sides trading momentum. Olivia Fauth gave the Battlin' Bears a 14-7 lead with a kill, but Carroll College would battle back to trim their deficit to three points. Rocky would extend their lead back to five, but another Saints run tied the match at 20-20. The two sides traded points back and forth until Carroll finally prevailed with back-to-back kills to win the second set 29-27.

The Fighting Saints' momentum would extend into the third set, jumping out to an early 10-1 lead, before forcing a Battlin' Bear timeout. The run for Carroll would continue, eventually growing a substantial lead. Rocky would put together a late 8-1 run, but would eventually fall 25-14 in the third set and the match.

Olivia Fauth would lead the Battlin' Bears with 10 kills on the evening. Zoey Albert totaled 24 digs from her libero position, while Meredith Marsh added 21 assists.

Sidney Gulick and McKaila Balcom each totaled 13 kills for the Fighting Saints.
