Rocky Men’s Soccer Runs Away With 6-2 Win Over Walla Walla

BILLINGS, Mont.- Freshman David Russell recorded his second career match with three or more goals scored, leading the Battlin' Bears to a 6-2 rout of Walla Walla.

Rocky Men's Soccer earned their tenth consecutive victory against the Wolves, winning all ten matchups between the two teams.

How It Happened

The Battlin' Bears wasted no time opening Friday's contest, as David Russell fired back-to-back goals just over a minute apart from each other. The first came off a free kick from Lorenzo Klamler, as Russell snuck to the right side of the box and fired a crossing shot into the net for an early 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. In the seventh minute, Fynn Sweeting broke down his defender on a dead sprint, tiptoeing the out-of-bounds line before finding Russell for a strong finish past the Wolves' keeper to extend Rocky's early lead to 2-0.

Walla Walla cut their deficit to one, after Juan Lobos snuck behind the Battlin' Bear defense for a clean shot in the 21st minute.

The Battlin' Bears again extended their lead back to two before the end of the half, as David Russell snuck a pass into the box to Fynn Sweeting, who crossed the ball back to t a streaking Aaron Lawson, who redirected the ball into the net, giving the Battlin' Bears a 3-1 lead at halftime.

Lorenzo Klamler helped break the match open in the second half, scoring twice in five minutes. His first goal came after his own header was saved, Aaron Lawson recovered the deflection and again found Klamler, who fired his second shot into the net in the 53rd minute. In the 58th minute, Aaron Lawson would loop a pass into the box, this time finding the head of Lorenzo Klamler, who pushed the ball past the keeper for a 5-1 lead.

While Walla Walla would score again in the 64th minute, David Russell would match it in the 67th minute, after Paul Katende sent a long pass that fell behind the Walla Walla defense, allowing Russell for an easy finish at the net to all but secure Rocky's 6-2 victory at home.

The Battlin' Bears outshot Walla Walla 16-5 overall in the match. Rocky was efficient in their attack, putting 12 of their 16 shots on frame. Defensively, Rocky held the Wolves to just three shots on goal.
