Rocky Football Wins Third Straight Game After 35-21 Triumph Over MSU-Northern

HAVRE, Mont.- Rocky scored touchdowns in all four quarters as they defeated the Lights on the road in Havre 35-21, securing their third consecutive divisional victory.

Almost all of the Battlin' Bears' season-high rushing total of 144 yards came in the second half, as Rocky controlled possession late to secure their road victory.

How it Happened

The Lights would strike first on the afternoon, as a long rush on their first play of the drive set up linebacker Braydon Cline to set up at quarterback and run a two-yard touchdown in for a 7-0 MSU-Northern lead.

Rocky would knot the game at 7-7 on their ensuing offensive drive, as quarterback Trent Nobach found Darius Haskin for a 31-yard completion on third down, and just three plays later, found Haskin in the endzone for a five-yard touchdown.

Later in the first quarter, following a forced three-and-out for the Lights, Trey Smith would set the Battlin' Bears deep in MSU-Northern territory following a 30-yard punt return. Trent Nobach would find Tuff Adams for a 21-yard pitch and catch to set Rocky up at the one-yard line, before Adams would finish the drive with a rushing touchdown to give the Battlin' Bears a 14-7 lead entering the second quarter.

Both teams traded punts and turnovers on downs throughout most of the second quarter. Still, after MSU-Northern's third punt of the first half, quarterback Trent Nobach would extend Rocky's lead just before the two-minute timeout, finding Dylan Flatt deep down the middle of the field for a 61-yard touchdown pass, the first touchdown reception of Flatt's career.

After a short punt following a three-and-out for MSU-Northern, Trent Nobach found Darius Haskin for the second time in the endzone, this time from 23-yards out to extend Rocky's lead to 28-7 early in the third quarter.

The Lights would cut their deficit to two scores again midway through the quarter following an 11-play, 75-yard drive, ending in a 19-yard passing touchdown from reserve quarterback Ethan Maroni to Mason Ahrins.

Rocky's final possession of the third quarter and the first possession of the fourth quarter were centered around controlling possession, which is precisely what the Battlin' Bears did, combining for 21 plays and almost 13 minutes of clock to throttle a Lights' comeback attempt.

MSU-Northern would score again in the final minute, as Maroni would connect with Colter Woldstad from 39 yards away to make it a one-score contest.

Running back Brock Ping would have the final say in the contest, however, breaking free on a third-down conversion for a 72-yard touchdown, extending Rocky's lead back out to 35-21 with just 30 seconds remaining, clinching the Battlin' Bear victory on the road.
