Rocky Football Defeated by No. 5 Montana Tech 42-13

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears suffered their first defeat in divisional play, falling at home to No. 5-ranked Montana Tech on Saturday.

How it Happened

Rocky had a promising start to the afternoon, driving 71 yards down the field on their opening drive, eventually settling for a field goal to take a 3-0 lead.

From then on, however, the momentum was squarely possessed by the visiting Orediggers, who scored 28 unanswered points to take a 25-point lead midway through the third quarter.

The Battlin' Bears would score twice in the third quarter in response, as Austin Drake kicked his second field goal of the day through the strong winds at Herb Klindt Field. Rocky's next offensive drive would feature a 40-yard strike from Trent Nobach to Jacoby Falor, while three plays later, Nobach would find Eric Lira for a 20-yard touchdown to cut the Battlin' Bear deficit to 15.

Montana Tech would seal the deal in the fourth quarter, however, with a pair of rushing touchdowns to hand Rocky their first divisional loss of the season.

Notable Statistics

Trent Nobach ended the day with 211 passing yards and a touchdown. Eric Lira was the leading receiver in yardage with 60 yards on three catches, while Tyler Abbott tallied four catches for 49 yards. Tuff Adams totaled 41 yards on the ground on eight rushes, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.

Jabari Madison Jr. led the team with seven tackles, including a tackle for loss. Sa'mar Turner added six tackles.

On a windy day in Billings, Rocky's kicking game had a strong day, as Austin Drake hit both of his field goal attempts from 21 yards and 38 yards, while Jordan Legg punted four times for 146 yards, averaging 36.5 yards per punt with a long of 48 yards.
