Rocky Volleyball Defeats Mayville State in Five Sets on the Road

MAYVILLE, N.D. - Rocky Volleyball rallied in the final two sets to defeat the Comets in five sets on the road. 

The Battlin' Bears set season highs in multiple statistical categories, including kills (57), assists (56), and digs (98) on their way to their first conference victory of the season. 

How It Happened
Mayville State grabbed early momentum with a 25-16 first set win, as the Battlin' Bears were limited to just a .086 with six attack errors. 

Rocky bounced back to tie the match in the second set, as the Battlin' Bears tallied a team hitting percentage of .333. After the Comets jumped out to a 6-0 lead to force a Rocky timeout, the Battlin' Bears would quickly close the gap, as both teams would trade leads until late into the set. After a Rocky service error gave Mayville State a 23-22 lead, Rocky would tally three straight points to swipe the second set, 25-23. 

Mayville State would utilize another hot start in the third set, building a 10-2 lead. While the Battlin' Bears responded to eventually tie the match at 17-17, the Comets would eventually snag a third set win after ending on a 4-1 run, 25-21. 

In the fourth set, Amelia Kisiel would spike a kill to give Rocky a slim 18-17 lead. Following a Battlin' Bear service error, the Comets would score five straight points to take a 22-18 lead and put Rocky on the ropes. The Battlin' Bears didn't blink, however, finishing the fourth set on a 7-1 run to swipe the win 25-23 and force a fifth set. 

Olivia Fauth led the charge for Rocky in the fifth and final set, spiking five of her 14 total kills in the final frame, leading Rocky to a 15-12 set win and the match victory in five sets. 

Notable Statistics
Rocky outhit Mayville State in total kills (57-56) and hitting percentage (.183 - .148). Olivia Fauth finished with a match-high 14 kills on a .324 hitting percentage. Amelia Kisiel followed with 11 kills. 

Meredith Marsh tallied a season-high 30 assists and 10 digs, along with four service aces. Zoey Albert added a team-high 27 digs.
