Rocky Volleyball Falls to Dickinson State in Four Sets

DICKINSON, N.D. - The Battlin' Bears were unable to overcome an early deficit, falling in four sets on the road at Dickinson State.

Rocky's attack picked up in the third and fourth sets to put the pressure on, but Dickinson State would ultimately close the match after a dramatic fourth set.

How It Happened

Rocky held a slight advantage in the opening set, as Delayne Lindeen secured a service ace to give the Battlin' Bears a 15-14 lead and force a Blue Hawk timeout. Dickinson State would come out firing from the timeout, putting together eight straight points, eventually jumping to a 21-15 lead, and eventually securing a 25-20 set win.

Again in the second set, it was the Battlin' Bears who secured an early lead in the set following a service ace from Lindsay Lawrence. With the teams going back and forth, Sadie Meier knotted the set at 18-18 with a kill. Similar to the first set, Dickinson would fire off a late set run to take another 25-20 second set win.

Rocky would be the one to make a commanding run in the third set, as Josie West spiked a kill to give Rocky a 17-12 lead. The Battlin' Bears called a timeout following Dickinson State cutting their deficit down to two. Still, Rocky took advantage of an ensuing service error by the Blue Hawks, proceeding to score four straight points, as Sadie Meier finished the set with a kill to bring the match score back to 2-1.

Dickinson State took the momentum late in the fourth set, taking a 23-20 lead. Rocky would quickly storm back with three straight points to force a timeout by the Blue Hawks. With Dickinson State bringing the set to match point at 24-23, Kaitlyn Wood and Josie West would tally back-to-back kills to take the lead back at 25-24. Again, Rocky had an opportunity to seal the match after a kill from Ella Kincaid that made the match 26-25. With back-and-forth action continuing, it would be Dickinson State to tally a pair of kills in a row to take the fourth set and ultimately, the match in four sets.
