Rocky Volleyball Defeated by Bismarck State in Four Sets

BISMARCK, N.D. - The Battlin' Bears concluded their North Dakota road trip with a defeat to the Mystics in four sets.

Saturday marked the first matchup between these two programs, as Bismarck State earned the first victory in the series.

How It Happened

Rocky had the early advantage in the first set, as three straight points from the Battlin' Bears, capped by a kill from Josie West, forced a Bismarck State timeout.

The Battlin' Bears wouldn't be shaken from the early loss, as a block from Gabriella Panzetta gave Rocky a 12-8 lead. After Bismarck State clawed back into the match, the Battlin' Bears would rattle off eight consecutive points, sparked by back-to-back kills from Amelia Kisel and finished by another pair of kills from Kisel. The Mystics responded with three straight points, but Gabriella Panzetta would finish off the set with a kill to give the Battlin' Bears a 25-18 second-set win.

It was Bismarck State who got off to a strong start in the third set, as a Battlin' Bear error would give them a 12-9 lead. Their separation from Rocky would come by way of a 7-2 run that would force a Rocky timeout after their lead grew to six at 19-12. While Rocky would respond with a pair of Sadie Meier kills and force a Bismarck State timeout, the Mystics would finish off the third set to take a 25-17 set win.

The fourth set was back and forth, with a service ace from Ella Kincaid giving the Battlin' Bears a slim 15-14 lead. Olivia Fauth would follow with a kill a few rallies later to bring the score to 18-17, but Bismarck State would run away with an 8-3 run to close the set and earn their first conference victory.
