Rocky Men’s Soccer Blanks Warriors in 2-0 Victory Over Corban

SALEM, Ore.- Rocky Men's Soccer flashed its defensive strengths in a 2-0 victory over Corban University on the road.

Fynn Sweeting scored a pair of first-half goals to give the Battlin' Bears the scoring they needed for the winning effort. Despite playing a man down for the final 59 minutes of the contest, the Rocky men withstood 23 Corban shot attempts to turn in a clean sheet, thanks to eight saves from Biruk Paulos Negatu in goal.

How It Happened

Fynn Sweeting put Rocky up early in the first half, as after the Corban goalie deflected a Henry Chalkley free kick, the freshman fired the loose ball into the net for a quick 1-0 lead.

After a Rocky red card in the 31st minute left the Battlin' Bears down a man, the Battlin' Bears didn't flinch, as Fynn Sweeting took the ball nearly the length of the field before sneaking a low shot behind the Corban defense to give the Battlin' Bears a 2-0 lead.

While no scoring occurred for the remainder of the contest, the Rocky defense was the star of the show, withstanding a total of 23 shot attempts from the Warriors and 14 corner kicks. The Battlin' Bears kept their goal untouched, preserving their third shutout victory of the season.

The Battlin' Bears totaled 13 shot attempts, six of which were on frame. Redshirt freshman Biruk Paulos-Negatu saved all eight shots he faced on the evening.
