#17 Rocky Women’s Basketball Opens Conference Schedule 1-0 With Victory Over #14 Carroll College

BILLINGS, Mont.- A 17-0 run in the first quarter gave the No. 17-ranked Battlin' Bears a lead they would never give up, cruising to a 67-56 win over No. 14-ranked Carroll College.

Iliana Moran led all scorers with an efficient 21 points, 14 of which came in the second half. Isabelle Heggem totaled her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 16 rebounds.

How It Happened

Carroll College took the early momentum in the Fortin Education Center, beginning the game on an 8-0 run, forcing an early Battlin' Bear timeout. Rocky came out of the timeout firing, making their next six shots from the field en route to a 17-0 run. Tailyn Black would beat the buzzer at the end of the first quarter to give the Battlin' Bears an eight-point lead.

Rocky's defense helped retain their lead going into halftime, holding the Fighting Saints to just four-of-16 shooting from the field, including zero-of-eight from three, extending their lead to double-digits at halftime.

While the Battlin' Bears struggled to open the second half, turning the ball over six times in the third quarter, they were efficient from the field, making six-of-13 shots from the field. On the other side, Rocky's defense was excellent again, holding the Fighting Saints to just nine points on just 20% shooting from the field, to again extend their lead.

The Battlin' Bears extended their largest lead of the contest and sealed their victory over the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, sinking seven of their first nine shots of the quarter, including four makes from Brenna Linse, to extend a lead as large as 20 with just over four minutes remaining. While the Fighting Saints found offensive momentum through the final four minutes, it was too little too late, as Rocky cruised to their second win of the season and the first of the conference slate.
