Wasson’s Electric First Half Leads #17 Rocky Women’s Basketball to 21-Point Win Over Dickinson State

DICKINSON, N.D.- Paige Wasson scored 28 of her game-high 31 points in the first half, paving the way for a 77-56 victory for the Battlin' Bears. 

Back-to-back nights, the Whitewater, Montana, product lit up the scoreboard, just 24 hours after recording a career-high 33 points against Bismarck State, she totaled another 30-point performance to lead Rocky to a dominant win on the road. 

How It Happened

Wasson's big night began by scoring the first 12 points of the night for the Battlin' Bears, as back-to-back three pointers pushed Rocky's lead to 12-6. She continued to pour it on, totaling 17 points in the opening period, with help from a Gabriella Biitner three-pointer to push the Battlin' Bear lead to eight at the end of the first quarter. 

An and-one from Wasson midway through the second quarter would spark an 11-2 run to push Rocky's lead to double-figures with four minutes remaining in the half. Brenna Linse and Paige Wasson would combine for nine points in the final four minutes of the half to push Rocky's lead to 14 points at halftime. 

Rocky's defense was excellent coming out of the locker room, holding the Blue Hawks without a point for the opening four minutes of the second half. Offensively, the Battlin' Bears shifted their focus inside, scoring 12 of their 16 points in the quarter inside the paint, extending a 19-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

The Battlin' Bears secured their victory by maintaining possession in the fourth quarter, snagging four offensive rebounds and turning the ball over just once en route to a 21-point road victory over Dickinson State. 

Notable Statistics

Paige Wasson stuffed the stat sheet, totaling 31 points, hitting six three-pointers, along with six rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block. Brenna Linse added an efficient 15 points, shooting seven-of-eight from the field, while also pulling down seven rebounds and four assists. Angelina Cavanaugh was also in double figures, scoring 13 points with three made three-pointers. 

Isabelle Heggem added eight points, five assists, four rebounds, and three blocks. 

The Battlin' Bears finished the evening shooting 55.6% from the field and made 11 threes at a 52.4% rate. Rocky outrebounded the Blue Hawks 34-22 and totaled 36 points in the paint. 

Dickinson State was led by 12 points from Kyrie Alldredge, who hit all eight of her free throw attempts.
