Rocky Women’s Basketball Wins Season Opener Over Bushnell 75-67

BILLINGS, Mont.- Sophomores Isabelle Heggem and Paige Wasson led the charge for Rocky Women's Basketball as they defended home court on Monday evening, defeating Bushnell 75-67.

Heggem recorded her second career double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while also tying her career high in blocks with five and new career highs in free throw attempts (10) and makes (10). Wasson opened her sophomore campaign with her third career game of 20+ points, totaling a team high 23.

How It Happened

After both teams traded baskets to open the contest, the Battlin' Bears put together a 13-5 run at the end of the first quarter, led by nine total first-quarter points from Paige Wasson, as Rocky held a one-point lead at the break following a last-second three-pointer from the Beacons.

Again in the second quarter, Rocky controlled the final five minutes of the period, as Paige Wasson and Isabelle Heggem combined for 13 points in that stretch to give Rocky a five-point halftime lead.

While the Battlin' Bear field goal percentage dipped in the third quarter, they earned their way to the free throw line to continue their offensive output, converting seven of their ten attempts in the quarter. Battlin' Bear turnovers allowed Bushnell to claw back, cutting their deficit down to three at the end of the quarter.

Paige Wasson hit a pair of threes and Brenna Linse came off the bench to add four points for a 10-3 run over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to extend the Battlin' Bear lead to double-figures. With Bushnell making one last attempt at a comeback, Rocky's defense forced a pair of turnovers en route to a 7-2 run to extend their lead back up to 12 with under two minutes remaining, securing their first victory of the 2025-26 season.
