Rocky Volleyball Falls in Rimrock Rivalry Matchup in Straight Sets

BILLINGS, Mont. - The road teams had the advantage in the 2025 Rimrock Rivalry Volleyball series, as the Battlin' Bears dropped Tuesday's matchup against MSU Billings in three sets. 

The Battlin' Bears won the first matchup of the season in five sets on the road at Alterowitz Gym, evening the season series at 1-1. 

How It Happened
With the Battlin' Bears trailing early in the first set, Kaitlyn Wood would lead the offensive charge, totaling four kills amid a 15-6 run that gave Rocky a 22-15 advantage. Momentum swung on a dime, however, as the Yellowjackets would close the first set with an 11-2 run of their own to swipe a 26-24 first set win. 

Rocky's offensive attack never found its rhythm in the second set, totaling just four kills overall as MSU Billings ran away with a 25-16 second-set win. 

With the third set going back and forth, Gabriella Panzetta gave Rocky a spark off the bench with back-to-back kills to give the Battlin' Bears a 22-20 lead. Again, however, it was the Yellowjackets to spark a late run, swiping a 26-24 set win away from Rocky and earning the match victory. 

Kaitlyn Wood and Olivia Fauth each finished with six kills apiece. Kristyn Mentink tallied a double-double, with 25 assists, 10 digs, and a pair of service aces. Zoey Albert added a team-high 18 digs.
