Rocky Volleyball Sweeps Mystics in Straight Sets

BILLINGS, Mont. - The Battlin' Bears put together a hard-fought three-set sweep over Bismarck State on Friday evening.

The Battlin' Bears split the season series with first-year NAIA program Bismarck State, with both teams winning their respective home matchups. Rocky posted their second-best team hitting percentage this season in their winning effort.

How It Happened

Both teams hit effectively in the first set, totaling team hitting percentages over .200. In a back-and-forth set, Bismarck State tied the match at 24-24 following a Battlin' Bear attack error. Sadie Meier would rally Rocky with a kill, and the Battlin' Bears would seal it on the following point following a Mystic attack error, giving Rocky a 26-24 first set victory.

While the Battlin' Bears saw a lower hitting percentage in set two, they limited their mistakes in their attack, totaling just four attack errors. Rocky's defense at the net kept the set close, as Kaitlyn Wood totaled two of Rocky's four blocks in the set. With the set tied 20-20, Kaitlyn Wood and Olivia Fauth went back-to-back with kills to give the Battlin' Bears a two-point advantage. Sadie Meier would seal the deal with a kill to give the Battlin' Bears a 25-23 set victory.

Sophomore Amelia Kisiel led the charge in the final set, totaling six of her team-high 15 kills. Her third kill of the set forced a Mystic's timeout and gave Rocky an early 8-3 lead. Again, however, Bismarck State battled back to tie the match, as neither team would separate by more than two points. Late in the set, Bismarck State snagged a slim 23-22, before the Battlin' Bears would rattle off three consecutive points, fueled by kills from Sadie Meier and Amelia Kisiel to seal the three-set victory at home.

Notable Statistics

Amelia Kisiel led the way with a team-high 15 kills on an impressive .379 hitting percentage. Sadie Meier added nine kills, while Kaitlyn Wood totaled seven kills and five blocks. Kristyn Mentink finished with 36 assists, along with two service aces and nine digs, while Zoey Albert tallied 24 digs overall.

The Battlin' Bears outhit the Mystics .189 to .154 overall, while adding six total service aces and eight blocks as a team in the winning effort.
