Battlin’ Bears Blank Bushnell in CCC Women’s Soccer Tournament Quarterfinals

MEDFORD, Ore.- Fourth-seeded Rocky Women's Soccer began their CCC Tournament run with a 2-0 shutout of fifth-seeded Bushnell University on Saturday afternoon.

Their win marks back-to-back seasons where the Rocky women have advanced past the quarterfinals, as they look ahead to Monday's semifinal matchup.

How it Happened

Georgia Dean converted on an early opportunity, after Emma Lensing was fouled just outside of the box in the ninth minute. Dean lined up a free-kick, which took a bounce and curved into the net. The sophomore midfielder has been a thorn in the side of the Beacons, scoring five goals in the past two games against Bushnell.

Emma Lensing set up Charlize Davis for an insurance goal in the 22nd minute, as after Busnell was unable to maintain possession, Lensing collected the ball and fired a long crossing pass, finding the shin of Davis, who pushed the ball into the net, giving the Battlin' Bears all the scoring they needed for a victory in the CCC Quarterfinals.

Rocky largely controlled possession, totaling six corner kicks on the afternoon compared to Bushnell's two.

Rocky's defense was the story of the match, particularly in the second half, as the Beacons totaled 12 shots but held them to only four on frame, limiting open opportunities.

Matea Vernon cleaned up the four shots that did stay on frame, collecting her eighth career clean sheet.

Scoring Summary

9' RMC - Georgia Dean
21' RMC - Charlize Davis (Ast. Emma Lensing)
