Rocky Men’s Soccer Advances Past Southern Oregon With 2-0 Victory in the CCC Men’s Soccer Tournament Quarterfinals

MEDFORD, Ore.- Freshman Fynn Sweeting scored twice to push the Rocky men to their first CCC Tournament Semifinals appearance since 2018. 

The shutout victory also marks Rocky's first shutout victory in a CCC Tournament game since their 2018 CCC Tournament Championship run, which featured now-head coach Milo Downey patrolling the midfield. 

How It Happened
The Battlin' Bears put a trio of shots on goal in the first 30 minutes of play, but none made it past the Raider defense. Scoring for the Battlin' Bears opened up in the 33rd minute, as after a Battlin' Bear penalty kick attempt was saved, Rocky converted on the ensuing corner kick, as Henry Chalkley's corner kick found the leg of Fynn Sweeting inside the box, who converted for the game's opening score. 

Just five minutes of game time later, Sweeting broke free in the Raider backfield for a one-on-one with the Southern Oregon goalkeeper, which the freshman from England converted to give the Battlin' Bears a two-score lead, one they would hold through the final horn. 

Southern Oregon totaled 15 shots on the evening, but the Battlin' Bears limited easy opportunities, keeping just four of those shots on frame. Biruk Paulos-Negatu cleaned up the four shots that did end up on frame, turning in a clean sheet. 

A Battlin' Bear offense without their top two goal scorers, freshman Fynn Sweeting stepped into a key role. On top of his two goals scored, he totaled ten shot attempts and put six of them on frame while playing all 90 minutes. 

In total, Rocky narrowly outshot the Raiders 16-15, but held a lopsided advantage in shots on goal, 10-4.
