Turnovers Hinder #17 Rocky Women’s Basketball in Loss Against #5 Marian

GLENDALE, Ariz.- Double-doubles from Paige Wasson and Brenna Linse were not enough to overcome the fifth-ranked Knights on Friday evening. 

A season-high 24 turnovers hurt the Battlin' Bears, as No. 5-ranked Marian broke away in the second half to hand Rocky their second consecutive loss. 

How It Happened
The Battlin' Bear defense was up to the task early, holding Marian to just two-of-21 shooting from the field in the first quarter. Offensively, however, Rocky was limited, as seven turnovers limited the Battlin' Bears to just seven points in the quarter, which still gave them a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter. 

Offense for both sides came alive in the second quarter, but it was Paige Wasson who would lead the Battlin' Bears on an early 9-2 run to take an eight-point lead. Marian would have their answer, ending the first half on a 15-2 run to swipe a six-point lead at the halftime break. 

Rocky came out strong over the first three minutes of the second half, as Paige Wasson and Isabelle Heggem hit threes en route to a 10-4 run that tied the game at 31-31. Momentum would drastically swing the other way for the remainder of the quarter, however, as an offensive outburst from Marian would total a 19-2 run to give the Knights a double-digit advantage they would never give up. Seven more turnovers in the fourth quarter would limit any comeback efforts for the Battlin' Bears, as they fell to undefeated No. 5-ranked Marian by double figures in Arizona. 

Notable Statistics
Paige Wasson recorded a game-high 21 points, along with ten rebounds. Brenna Linse also recorded a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. 

The Battlin' Bears shot 37.3% from the field and just 13.6% from three-point range. Marian shot 50% from three and totaled 17 points off of Rocky turnovers. 

Madisyn Bailey played all 40 minutes for the Knights, totaling a team-high 18 points and seven assists.
