Linse’s Dominant Performance Leads #17 Rocky Women’s Basketball to Gutsy 89-86 Victory

GLENDALE, Ariz.- Senior Brenna Linse continued her dominant stretch, recording a career-high 32 points to lead the Battlin' Bears to a three-point win over Olivet Nazarene.

Linse becomes the second Battlin' Bear this season to surpass the 30-point mark, joining Paige Wasson, who has done so twice. The performance also marks a new career-high, which she had just set on Wednesday with 27 points against Benedictine Mesa.

How It Happened

The Rocky offense had a strong start to the contest, extending a 15-7 lead after the first five minutes. Brenna Linse got her breakout game going early, scoring 12 total points in the quarter and six points in the final two minutes of the quarter to give the Battlin' Bears a 25-18 lead at the end of the first quarter.

With the Tigers trimming their deficit, it was Linse who extended the lead again, scoring on four consecutive possessions, capped off with an and-one layup to push Rocky's lead to double-digits. Angelina Cavanaugh and Kiya Foran hit three-pointers before the half ended, giving the Battlin' Bears a twelve-point lead going into halftime. Rocky's second quarter offensively was spectacular, shooting 75% from the field as a team, including five-of-six from three-point range to total 30 points.

While the Battlin' Bears would be efficient offensively in the third quarter, shooting 50%, ten turnovers in the quarter would hinder their opportunities to extend their lead and gave way for a 13-0 Olivet Nazarene run as the Tigers grabbed their first lead of the game with 4:48 to go in the third quarter. Rocky's defense would bow up to close the third quarter, holding ONU to just one field goal in the final 4:48 of the third quarter to compile an 11-4 run and a six-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Olivet Nazarene would swing momentum again, hitting all three of its three-point attempts in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter to regain a two-point lead. The Tiger offense would go quiet to follow, as the Battlin' Bears held ONU without a field goal for nearly four minutes of game time to take a six-point lead with 3:30 to go in the game. After both teams were held scoreless for almost two minutes of gametime, the Tigers would hit a game-tying three-pointer, before Kiya Foran would bank in a three-point response on the following possession to give Rocky a lead they would hold on to for the final minute to secure a victory in their final game of the 2025 calendar year.
