Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

#15 Rocky Women’s Basketball Falls Late to #25 Montana Tech 59-56

BUTTE, Mont.- Rocky Women's Basketball was unable to close out the Orediggers Friday evening, taking their second conference loss of the season.

After holding a lead as large as 24 in the third quarter, the Battlin' Bears were held to just four points in the fourth quarter and no field goals, eventually falling in the final minutes.

How It Happened

Paige Wasson paced the Battlin' Bears early, scoring 12 of the first 17 points of the contest for Rocky, leading to an eight-point advantage at the end of the first quarter. While Rocky's offensive momentum slowed in the second quarter, their defensive intensity carried over, holding the Orediggers to just seven second-quarter points. Tailyn Black would nail a three-pointer late in the first half to extend Rocky's lead to 14 entering halftime.

The Battlin' Bears came firing out of the locker room, hitting four threes in the first four minutes of the half to total a 16-6 run over the first six minutes of the second half. From there, however, the momentum came to a screeching halt for the Battlin' Bear offense, as they were held at the 52-point mark from the 3:26 minute mark in the third quarter until the 3:22 minute mark in the fourth quarter, when Brenne Linse hit a free throw to break the cold spell. In that span, the Orediggers cut their deficit all the way down to one. After Paige Wasson hit a pair of free throws to bring Rocky's lead back up to four, turnovers would haunt the Battlin' Bears over the final two minutes, as Montana Tech would finish the game on an 8-1 run and swipe a conference win away from the Battlin' Bears.

Notable Statistics

Paige Wasson had a dominant game, recording 16 points, 16 rebounds, and five blocks. Isabelle Heggem also added 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks.

After a strong start, the Battlin' Bears finished the contest shooting 32.1% from the field and 32.1% from three. Rocky turned the ball over 11 times and was outrebounded 41-to-44.

The Orediggers were led by 15 points and six rebounds from Brooke Badovinac, as eight of the nine players who entered the game on Friday scored four or more points for Montana Tech.
