#15 Rocky Women’s Basketball Smothers Bulldogs in 67-54 Victory

DILLON, Mont.- Rocky Women's Basketball earned a hard-fought victory on the road over Montana Western, led by a career-high 16 points from Tailyn Black off the bench.

Black led four Battlin' Bears who finished in double-figures, as Isabelle Heggem totaled 16 points, Paige Wasson added 12 in her second consecutive double-double, and Brenna Linse finished with 11 points.

How It Happened

Offense was slow to start for both teams in Dillon, as Paige Wasson broke the seal nearly two minutes into the game, giving Rocky the 2-0 lead. Turnovers hurt Rocky early, as three Battlin' Bear turnovers sparked a 9-2 run for Montana Western to swipe the lead back. The final five minutes of the first quarter belonged to Isabelle Heggem, as she scored ten points over the final five minutes of the quarter, spearheading a 16-5 run to end the quarter, capped off by a jumper from Tailyn Black at the buzzer to give the Battlin' Bears an 18-14 lead.

Tailyn Black had the hot hand to open the second quarter, scoring seven points over the first five minutes of the quarter to lead Rocky to an eight-point advantage entering the media timeout. A pair of Battlin' Bear turnovers would lead the way to an 8-0 run from Montana Western to knot the game at 27-27 with three minutes to go in the half. Isabelle Heggem helped push Rocky into the locker room with four points late in the half, extending her first-half point total to 16 as the Battlin' Bears would lead 36-34.

The Battlin' Bear defense was excellent in the third quarter, holding Montana Western to just six points on 18.8% shooting from the field and not allowing a single point in the final 4:30 of the third quarter. In that span, the Battlin' Bears rallied for an 11-0 run to give themselves a ten-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

While Montana Western would momentarily cut its deficit to single digits midway through the fourth quarter, the Battlin' Bears would hold Montana Western without a field goal for the final five minutes of the game, sealing a road victory in Dillon.
