PREVIEW: Rocky Men’s Basketball Plays Final Home Games Against No.15 Montana Tech and MSU-Northern

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears return home for the final time this season, taking on Montana Tech and MSU-Northern with the opportunity to win both season series.

Last Time Out

The Battlin' Bear men split their road matchups last weekend, defeating Montana Western 98-93 before falling to the University of Providence 100-78. Jesse Owens lit up the stat sheet on Thursday, totaling 31 points, including shooting 12-of-12 from the free throw line, eight rebounds, and seven assists. Jaylon Lee returned to the court with another double-double, his 13th of the season, finishing the night with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and two blocks following a two-game absence. The Battlin' Bears were physical throughout, working their way to the free throw line on their way to 30 made free throws in the win, a season-high. 

A hot-shooting Argos unit ran past the Rocky men on Saturday, totaling 100 points on 61.7% shooting from the field, securing the season series in the third and final matchup of the season.

The Battlin' Bears return home for the final time this season, taking on Montana Tech and MSU-Northern with the opportunity to win both season series. 

Around the Frontier
With four games remaining in the regular season schedule, Montana Tech and the University of Providence tied for first place in the conference, with the tiebreaker being decided in the final regular season game of the season. Rocky, Montana Western, and Carroll College are locked into a three-way tie for third place at 5-6, with Rocky holding the tiebreaker over Western, Carroll holding the tiebreaker over Rocky, and Western holding the tiebreaker over Carroll. MSU-Northern sits in sixth place with a conference record of 2-9.  

Control the Paint
Jaylon Lee and Carter McCoy have been two of the best in the Frontier Conference this season, as Lee leads the conference in field goal percentage (58.3%), with McCoy following in second (57.3%). Both also rank in the top five in rebounds per game, with Lee leading the conference with 11.9 per game and McCoy ranked 4th with 7.1 boards per game. 

Scouting the Orediggers
Montana Tech enters the weekend on their first losing skid of the season, dropping consecutive games last weekend, the first time they've done so since the shortened 2020 season. The Orediggers have totaled 20 wins for the fourth straight season and are ranked No. 15 in the NAIA. Four of their starters average double-figures, led by 12.3 points per game by Hayden Diekhans, boasting a 56.7% shooting percentage on the season. 

Scouting the Lights
MSU-Northern brings momentum into their weekend slate after a 68-65 upset victory over Montana Tech on Saturday. Guard Jack Reardon shined in the victory, scoring 26 points, while Raefe McEnroe followed with 12 points off the bench. With an uphill battle towards the fifth seed, the Lights will look to continue their newfound momentum into the upcoming Frontier Conference Championship with wins in their final four regular season games.
