(RV) Rocky Women’s Basketball Dominates Senior Day 71-42 Over Skylights

BILLINGS, Mont.- Seniors Sydney Dethman and Gracee Lekvold led the Battlin' Bears to a 29-point victory on Senior Day in the Fortin Education Center.  

The win was tied for the second-largest margin of victory for the Battlin' Bears this season and the largest in conference play. Rocky took the lead with 7:31 remaining in the first quarter on a three-pointer from Sydney Dethman and never gave the lead back.

The Battlin' Bears are now tied with Carroll College for first place in the Frontier Conference standings, setting up a significant matchup on Thursday evening in Helena. 

How it Happened

On their senior day, Gracee Lekvold and Sydney Dethman kicked off the Battlin' Bears' offense. They combined for the first 11 points for Rocky, giving the Battlin' Bears an early 11-6 lead. The Rocky women ballooned their lead in the first quarter, finishing the period on an 8-0 run to take a 12-point lead into the second quarter. 

Rocky's defensive effort highlighted the second quarter, holding the Skylights to just six points on two-of-13 shooting, helping them take a sizeable 18-point lead into the halftime break. 

The Battlin' Bears would hit six of their first ten shots out of the halftime break to again extend their lead as large as 25 in the third quarter. The Rocky women would hold the Skylights to just three points in the opening five minutes of the fourth quarter to run away with a home victory in their final regular season home game. 

Notable Statistics

Sydney Dethman led all scorers with 16 points, along with five rebounds and two steals. Gracee Lekvold added 13 points with three three-pointers, seven rebounds and three assists. Paige Wasson finished with her fourth career double-double, totaling 12 points and 12 rebounds. Iliana Moran also tallied double-figures with 10 points, three assists, and three steals. 

Rocky sank nine threes on the afternoon, tied for the most in a conference game this season. The defense for the Battlin' Bears was phenomenal over their past two games, giving up only 39.0 points per game over the weekend. 

Canzas HisBadHorse led the Skylights with 10 points and six rebounds.

Rocky Women's Basketball (17-9, 9-4 conf.) will hit the road for the final two matchups of the season, taking on #19 Carroll College on Thursday in a battle for first place in the Frontier before concluding their regular season on Saturday at Montana Western.
