HELENA, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears extended a lead as large as 23 points in the second half to snag sole possession of first place in the Frontier with one game remaining in the regular season.

The win gives the Battlin' Bears a one-game lead over Carroll College in the Frontier Conference standings with one game to go in the regular season. The win snapped an eight-game losing skid to Carroll College and was the first win in Helena since January of 2022.

Rocky outscored Carroll 32-17 in the second and third quarters overall, ultimately making the difference in a crucial victory down the stretch.

How it Happened

After the Fighting Saints took the first swing in the opening five minutes, the Battlin' Bears strung together a 12-5 run, with the help of seven points from Gracee Lekvold to grab a two-point lead after the first quarter.

Neither team shot well in the second quarter from the field, but second-chance points for the Battlin' Bears helped extend Rocky's lead at the half, finishing the second quarter on an 11-4 run.

After a slow start for both sides, the Battlin' Bears would erupt in the third quarter, finishing the period on a 16-4 run over the final six minutes of the third quarter. The momentum didn't stop heading into the fourth quarter, as the Battlin' Bears hit four of their first five shots from the field to extend a lead as large as 23 points to cruise to a dominant victory over the Fighting Saints on the road.
