Rocky Men’s Basketball Unable to Overcome Slow Start at Carroll College

HELENA, Mont.- Despite trimming a deficit as large as 25 points down to single digits, the Battlin' Bears fell short in Helena, falling 87-76.

Carroll's win secured a season sweep over the Rocky men. The Battlin' Bears fall to 7-7 in conference play and 18-9 overall. With a win on Saturday, the Rocky men will enter the conference tournament as the fourth seed. A loss to Montana Western on Saturday will place them as the fifth seed entering the Frontier Conference Tournament.

How it Happened

Things did not go Rocky's way to open the contest across the board. The Fighting Saints hit eight of their first 11 three-pointers, including six-of-six from deep from freshman Isaac Round. Omari Nesbit helped swing Rocky's momentum back before the half, hitting a trio of three-pointers to lead an 11-2 run to close the half, although the Battlin' Bears still trailed by 16.

With both teams trading baskets throughout the first ten minutes of the second half, Rocky made a push thanks to a 12-0 run to cut their deficit to 12. Carroll would respond with an 8-2 run to extend their lead. A 12-4 run would bring the Rocky deficit back down to 10 with two minutes remaining. Despite a three-pointer from Omari Nesbit that would bring the Carroll lead to single digits, it was too little too late for the Battlin' Bears, falling on the road.

Five different Battlin' Bears finished in double-figures, led by 17 points from Omari Nesbit, who also made five three-pointers.
