(RV) Rocky Women’s Basketball Defeats Montana Western 67-48

DILLON, Mont.- Rocky Women's Basketball produced another stout defensive effort and a combined 49.1% shooting percentage to earn a commanding win on Thursday evening. 

The Battlin' Bears grabbed a lead midway through the first quarter that they would never surrender. Four Rocky starters finished in double-figures, led by a game-high 19 points from Sydney Dethman

Rocky tallied 34 of their 68 points in the victory inside the paint, while their 16 total assists were the most in the conference game this season. 

How it Happened

Both teams traded baskets back and forth for the first five minutes of the quarter. Rocky broke away after the media timeout, rattling off a 12-2 run in total to finish the quarter and grab a 20-11 entering the second quarter.  

After a three-pointer from Payton Hagy trimmed the Bulldog deficit down to just five points, the Battlin' Bears would again finish the quarter on a strong run, this time on an 11-3 run to take a 13-point lead into halftime.  

The Rocky women would maintain their lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs in their best offensive quarter of the game, 16-13. The Battlin' Bears would secure their victory early in the fourth quarter, thanks to an 11-0 start to the quarter that would extend the Battlin' Bear lead to as large as 27 points en route to a dominant victory in Dillon on Thursday evening. 

Notable Statistics

Sydney Dethman tallied a game-high 19 points, including an incredibly efficient nine-of-ten shooting from the field, while adding seven rebounds. Paige Wasson sank five three-pointers to total 17 points, along with swiping three steals, and Isabelle Heggem added 11 points and seven rebounds. Gracee Lekvold also totaled ten points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The Heggem sisters combined for impressive rim protection, with Isabelle totaling three blocks and Madeline Heggem swatting two. 

The Rocky women shot 49.1% from the field while adding eight made three-pointers on the night. Defensively, the Battlin' Bears held their opponent to under 40% shooting from the field for the third time in the past four games. 

Isabella Lund led the Bulldogs with 16 points and four assists on the evening.
