(RV) Rocky Women’s Basketball Stifled in 68-53 Loss to #25 Argos

GREAT FALLS, Mont.- The Rocky women were held to their lowest point total of the season in a loss to No. 25-ranked Providence on Saturday.

How it Happened

The Argos were red hot to start, pushing the pace and scoring in transition, as back-to-back three-pointers from Ainsley Thurber secured a 19-4 Providence lead with four minutes to play in the quarter. Rocky would respond as needed, however, closing the quarter on a 10-0 run after forcing three Argo turnovers in the final four minutes.

After Providence broke their dry spell with a pair of free throws to open up the quarter, Gracee Lekvold would explode for an 8-0 personal run, scoring on three straight possessions to completely erase the early Rocky deficit and give the Battlin' Bears a one-point advantage. After back-and-forth action, the Argos would end the half on a 9-2 run to take a six-point lead into the break.

The second half was all Providence offensively, shooting 54.2% from the field and never allowing the Battlin' Bears within less than four points to secure the season series victory and hand Rocky just their second road loss of the season.

Notable Statistics

Gracee Lekvold led all scorers with 19 points, 15 of which came in the first half. Sydney Dethman also finished in double figures with 15. Rocky shot just four-of-20 from three-point range and 35.1% from the field, their fifth lowest percentage of the season that led to their lowest scoring output of the season.

The Argos were led by 17 points and nine rebounds from Keanna Salave'a, while Ainsley Thurber tallied 16 points on six-of-eight shooting off the bench.
