Rocky Women’s Soccer Falls to No. 17-Ranked Embry-Riddle 3-2

PRESCOTT, Ariz.- The Battlin' Bears suffered their first defeat on Monday evening, as they were unable to score in the second half to fall 3-2 to No. 17-ranked Embry-Riddle (AZ).

Charlize Davis tallied her first goal of the season in her first match back on the pitch, while Emma Lensing continued her torrid pace, scoring her fifth goal of the weekend.

Freshman Matea Vernon had a busy night in goal, totaling 11 saves in the losing effort.

How it Happened

Embry-Riddle was the first to strike, as Kari Kasun found the net in the 32nd minute to take the lead 1-0.

It took less than 30 seconds for the Battlin' Bears to respond, as Charlize Davis scooped up a missed ball from the Eagles, split the defenders, and spun a soft shot past a diving goalkeeper for her first goal of the season.

Kari Kasun would collect her second goal of the afternoon after getting behind the Battlin' Bear defense and winning the one-on-one with the keeper to take the lead back in the 40th minute.

Again, the Battlin' Bears would not flinch and went on the attack following the goal, as Emma Lensing would score another goal, her fifth of the season already, and her third consecutive match with a goal scored. Mya Maack sent a pass across the field to Georgia Dean, who found Lensing on the outside of the box. Lensing would dash past her defender and squeeze a shot past the goalkeeper to knot the match at 2-2 going into halftime.

Embry-Riddle would secure the lone goal in the second half, which ultimately was the game-winner. Jamie Brandon looped a header into the net following an Eagle's corner kick to take the lead in the 65th minute.

In total, Embry-Riddle controlled possession and produced an aggressive offensive attack, outshooting the Battlin' Bears 28-3 in the match overall. Rocky put all three of their shots on goal and scored on two of them. The Eagles totaled 15 shots on goal on the evening.

Matea Vernon totaled 11 saves on the evening, the most in a single game by a Battlin' Bear since 2018 (Maia Wetzel vs Northwest - 12).
