Rocky Women’s Soccer Defeats Carroll College 3-2 in CCC Opener

BILLINGS, Mont.- The Battlin' Bears extended a 3-0 lead in the second half and held it through the final whistle to secure a win in their conference opener.

It was the local products who shined for the Battlin' Bears in their conference opener, as Billings West High School graduates Grace Curnow and Emma Lensing, along with Laurel High School grad Mya Maack, all scored goals in Rocky's victory on Friday afternoon.

How it Happened

Grace Curnow would get Rocky started offensively in the first half, as she took a corner kick from Georgia Dean and fired a shot from deep outside of the box, which deflected off a Carroll defender and curled into the net, giving the Battlin' Bears the lone goal of the first half. Both defenses were commanding in the first half, with only six combined shot attempts, including only two from Carroll College.

Offense came alive in the second half, as Emma Lensing would add to Rocky's lead with a breakaway goal, battling through multiple Saints' defenders to force a goal into the net. Mya Maack would grow Rocky's lead to three just minutes later, taking a sharp pass from Lensing and firing a shot from up close into the net.

The Fighting Saints wouldn't go quietly, combining for a pair of goals in the final five minutes, but Rocky's defense would hold strong to secure the conference opening victory.

The Battlin' Bears outshot Carroll College 14-5, including 8-4 on shots on goal. Emma Lensing totaled a game-high four shots, two of which were on goal. Grace Curnow also put two of her three shots on frame.
