Game Notes

First Road Trip
The Battlin' Bears will play their first road game of the season on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Butte to take on the No. 11-ranked Orediggers. The Battlin' Bears kicked off their season last week at home versus (RV) College of Idaho, falling 37-20.

Bear Raid
Rocky's passing attack was the highlight of their week one matchup, as redshirt sophomore quarterback Trent Nobach finished the afternoon passing 19-of-31 for 336 yards and three touchdowns. The Battlin' Bears only totaled two games in 2024 with over 300 passing yards as a team, once on October 5th against College of Idaho (425) and the other time in their season opener against Dickinson State (307). Big plays fueled Rocky's scoring effort, as Trent Nobach completed touchdown passes of 75 yards and 53 yards. His touchdown pass of 75 yards was the longest by a Battlin' Bear since 2023.

Breakout Wideout
Redshirt freshman Darius Haskin had a standout performance this past Saturday, totaling six catches for 207 yards and two touchdowns. He is one of just two players to record more than 200 receiving yards in a single game this season in the NAIA. After one game, Haskin leads the NAIA in yards per game (207) and ranks third in yards per catch (34.5) among players who have five or more catches this season. The product from Buckeye, Arizona, was named the Offensive Player of the Week by NAIAFB following his outstanding season debut.

Scouting the Orediggers
Montana Tech is off to a strong start to their season, grabbing two in-state wins against No. 5-ranked Montana Western and No. 25-ranked Carroll College. Offensively, the Orediggers have averaged 34 points per game and have leaned on their running game, averaging just under 200 yards of rushing per game behind transfer Wykece Johnson, who leads the NAIA in total rushing yards (345) and is tied for the lead in rushing touchdowns (4).

Defensively, Montana Tech totaled five sacks and nine tackles for loss in their win over Carroll College. Overall, they've held their opponents this season to 23 points per game, including just 75 rushing yards per game and 253 passing yards per game.

Montana Tech's special teams have stood out to open the season, as senior Levi Torgerson has returned both a kickoff and a punt for a touchdown. On the other side, Montana Tech blocked three kicks in last week's win, one punt and two point-after attempts.
