Rocky Volleyball Battles in Three-Set Defeat to No. 24-ranked Dakota State

MADISON, S.D. - Rocky Volleyball faced their third consecutive top 25-ranked opponent on Saturday, falling in three sets to Dakota State. 

How It Happened
The Battlin' Bears put pressure on the Trojans in the first set with their defense at the net, forcing 11 attack errors from Dakota State and totaling five blocks in the set overall. Rocky put together a strong 7-1 run capped off with a kill from Gabriella Panzetta to give the Battlin' Bears a 19-11 lead. Dakota State came roaring back to tie the match at 25-25 and eventually squeezed out a first-set victory 29-27.

Again in the second set, it was Rocky who pushed the pace out to a 22-17 lead after a kill from Feline Mulder. The Trojans caught fire to finish the set, rattling off eight straight points to swipe a set two victory away from the Battlin' Bears.  

Dakota State continued their momentum into the third and final set, beginning the set on a 12-2 run. Rocky would whittle away their deficit, but it was ultimately too much to overcome, as they fell in the match in straight sets. 

Josie West totaled a double-double on the evening with 11 kills (.171%) and 14 digs. Kaitlyn Wood followed with 10 kills (.455%) and three blocks. Zoey Albert led the team with 20 digs.

Rocky Volleyball (0-9, 0-5) returns home this week to host (RV) Valley City State on Wednesday evening and Mayville State on Thursday night.
