Rocky Volleyball Drops Match in Four Sets Against Valley City State at Home

BILLINGS, Mont. - Rocky Volleyball falls late to Valley City State in four sets on Wednesday evening.

How It Happened

Valley City grabbed momentum early in the first set, using a 7-0 run following a Battlin' Bear service error to build a 13-4 lead. The Vikings held on to their early lead en route to a first-set victory.

The Battlin Bears came out swinging in the second set, as three early set kills from Kaitlyn Wood led Rocky to an early 12-6 lead, forcing a Valley City timeout. Rocky wouldn't relinquish their lead in the set, as a pair of service aces from Zoey Albert would ultimately secure a second set win, 25-17.

Rocky would continue their momentum, as a kill from Feline Mulder helped build a 17-11 lead in the third set. Valley City would come storming back, however, as a 10-4 run would knot up the match at 21-21. Back-and-forth action would commence, but three straight blocks from the Vikings would secure them a come-from-behind third set win.

Both teams traded points throughout the fourth set, but the Vikings slowly inched ahead, eventually securing a 25-19 victory in the set, which secured the match win.

Kaitlyn Wood tallied a season-high 15 kills in the defeat, adding four blocks as well. Zoey Albert finished the match with a career-high 32 digs, while Josie West added ten kills. Ella Kincaid led the team with 20 assists.

Valley City's Danielle Hagler led the way with 15 kills and three blocks.
