Rocky Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Mayville State

BILLINGS, Mont. - Rocky Volleyball was defeated in straight sets on Thursday evening at home. 

How It Happened
The Comets utilized a 7-2 run in the first set to extend a seven-point lead midway through the set. Rocky's offense displayed versatility, as five different Battlin' Bears swatted kills to cut their deficit down to four, but Mayville State would hold onto their lead to secure a 25-20 first-set win. 

Kaitlyn Wood and Sadie Meier tag-teamed with a pair of kills to contest Mayville State early in the second set, as a service error from the Comets drew the match at 10-10. While a 7-2 Mayville State run separated them by five points, the Battlin' Bears responded with a run of their own to force a timeout as they trailed 18-16. The Comets came out firing out of the timeout, as Mayville State would rally to a 25-20 second-set win. 

The Comet momentum would continue into the third set, as an early 8-1 run for Mayville State would be the separation they needed to secure the third and final set, 25-18. 

Sadie Meier and Kaitlyn Wood both totaled seven kills each, with Ella Kincaid adding six of her own along with 13 assists. Zoey Albert finished with 20 digs, and Feline Mulder tallied three blocks on the evening. 

Mayville State was led by an eight-kill, 14-dig performance from Desidy Schwanke.

Rocky Volleyball will return to the Fortin Education Center in a week, hosting Montana Western on Thursday, September 25th.
